I’m not 100% sure because I didn’t watch the movie, but I think the song “Painted Heart” is from the perspective of the fox spirit,

because the fox spirit in the end, regrets and sacrifices her heart to undo the deaths of several of the characters
That movie’s too sad for me to watch.
