Background: This song exploded with popularity on the net when it was released. At the same time, it ignited the debate over internet music again. Those who disliked the song felt that the lyrics were of poor taste and the music wasn’t refined enough, while those who liked it believed this song was perfect for the common people. The lyrics were plain, easy to understand, and very relatable.
He Xin, who was in charge of composing the lyrics didn’t try to argue that the song wasn’t of poor taste and simply said, “When I was writing “The Buying and Selling of Love,” I wasn’t trying to purposefully target the large cities or the preferences of the people in the cities or in the countryside. I just wanted to express the feelings that I had once experienced, and the conclusion towards love that I came to. The song is just reflecting my own opinion.”
Summary: This is a pretty catchy and upbeat song about betrayed love. The lyrics portray both sides – the side that was betrayed, and the side that did the betraying – and the conclusions they had come to.
